Max starting out in the backyard division of KCBS competition where he quickly gained a foothold in the competition cooking world. Max quickly moved into the Pro division that same year in KCBS.

Max expanded his competition cooking from BBQ to ancillaries and quickly fell in love with it. He is a Culinary Fight Club champion and in 2020 became a World Food Champion winning 1st place in 3 different categories.

He likes to compete in the Steak Cookoff Association, KCBS competitions, Culinary Fight Club, and World Food Championships. Montana Max BBQ is comprised of Max and his partner in life and food, Kansas City Jen.
